Report: Yankees have no plans to re-sign Torres, Rizzo
It doesn't look like the New York Yankees are interested in bringing back Anthony Rizzo or Gleyber Torres.
New York has no plans to re-sign the pair, according to YES Network's Jack Curry, who adds both players were interested in returning to the Bronx.
Rizzo, 35, had a tough 2024 campaign with the Yankees, slashing .228/.301/.335 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs in 92 games. The first baseman battled injuries over the past two campaigns, which limited his time on the field.
Meanwhile, Torres has been inconsistent in many ways for the Yankees. His offense fluctuated, his defense at both shortstop and second base left something to be desired, and some of his baserunning mistakes proved costly.
The 27-year-old still managed to finish last season strong, posting a .780 OPS with 28 RBIs in his final 61 games.
New York could turn to youngsters Ben Rice and Caleb Durbin to fill the voids or seek options in free agency.
Pete Alonso and Christian Walker are two of the best first basemen available this winter, while Jorge Polanco heads up a weak crop of free-agent second basemen.
