The Mets became the second favorite to win the 2025 World Series after reportedly winning the Juan Soto sweepstakes Sunday night with a record-setting $765-million deal.

The Mets moved from +1200 to +700 (a 4.8% increase in implied probability) at theScoreBet/ESPN Bet, behind only the Dodgers (+375) and ahead of the crosstown-rival Yankees (+850), who reportedly came second in the Soto race.

The Mets also became the second favorite to win the NL pennant, going from +600 to +400. The Dodgers are the +200 favorite, while the Braves (+450) and Phillies (+650) are close behind New York.

When free agency began, the Mets were given +225 odds to sign Soto, while the Yankees were the -225 favorite.

By inking the left-handed slugger to the richest contract in sports history, the Mets create a lethal duo with Soto and Francisco Lindor at the top of the order. However, the Soto signing likely signals the end of fan favorite Pete Alonso's tenure as a Met.

Mets owner Steve Cohen is hoping Soto is the missing piece that gets the franchise over the hump. New York lost to the Dodgers in the NLCS last season and hasn't won the World Series since 1986.

Soto hit 41 homers, drove in 109 runs, and hit .288 during his lone season with the Yankees. His deal with the Mets will mark his fourth team in five years and a return to the NL East, where he started his career with the Nationals.
