Report: Mariners fielding more trade calls about Castillo
Luis Castillo is a popular name on the trade market.
The Seattle Mariners are receiving more calls about the availability of the three-time All-Star pitcher after Max Fried signed with the New York Yankees and following a blockbuster trade that saw the Chicago White Sox send Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox, sources told Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.
Seattle's front office is apparently open to dialogue about Castillo.
"They're not hanging up," a source told Kramer.
The Red Sox were discussing a trade with the Mariners on Wednesday involving one of their starting pitchers, according Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
The New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, and Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly among other clubs seeking rotation help that could fit what the Mariners are looking for with major-league-ready infielders.
Castillo, 32, could be a trade candidate despite Seattle's stellar rotation because he's the oldest and is still owed $73 million over three years, notes Kramer.
The right-hander authored a 3.64 ERA with 1.17 WHIP and 175 strikeouts over 175 1/3 innings (30 starts) last season.
