White Sox sign Gallo to minor-league contract
The Chicago White Sox and veteran slugger Joey Gallo agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, the club announced Thursday.
Gallo spent the 2024 campaign with the Washington Nationals, hitting .161 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs.
The 31-year-old has struggled to replicate the form he showed in 2021 when he made his second All-Star Game. He hit 38 homers with a 121 OPS+ with the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees that season.
Gallo has hit just .166 with 50 home runs and a .665 OPS in 313 games since the beginning of the 2022 campaign.
He's capable of playing first base and either corner outfield spot. The White Sox are projected to begin the regular season with Andrew Vaughn at first base, Andrew Benintendi in left field, and Mike Tauchman in right field.
