The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Addison Barger on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left ankle sprain retroactive to Monday.

In a corresponding move, Toronto recalled infielder Tyler Fitzgerald from Triple-A Buffalo. Fitzgerald, a three-year MLB veteran who can play multiple positions, was acquired from the San Francisco Giants for cash Saturday.

Barger hurt his ankle while running out a ground ball in the third inning of Sunday's loss to the Chicago White Sox. He remained in the game for three more innings before being removed with what the team initially called bilateral ankle discomfort.

"Hopefully this is a minimal stint for Addy," manager John Schneider said, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.

The 26-year-old, who became a breakout star for Toronto during last year's playoff run, was off to a slow start. Barger went 1-for-19 with three walks, no home runs, and two RBIs over eight games before sustaining the injury.

Toronto has been hit hard by the injury bug in the early days of 2026. The team also received updates Tuesday on two other injured players in catcher Alejandro Kirk and starting pitcher Cody Ponce.

Kirk, who fractured his left thumb Saturday in Chicago, underwent surgery Monday to have a screw inserted into his injured digit. He's expected to be sidelined for around six weeks, Schneider said, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

Ponce, meanwhile, was diagnosed with a torn ACL after suffering a knee injury in his first start of the season against Colorado. He'll undergo surgery and is facing a six-month rehab, which would likely end his season, per Nicholson-Smith.

Additionally, the Blue Jays recalled veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin from Single-A Dunedin and designated lefty Josh Fleming for assignment. Corbin, who made one appearance in Dunedin after inking a one-year deal with the Blue Jays last week, will be active for Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
