The Boston Red Sox placed All-Star pitcher Ranger Suarez on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left groin strain.
Suarez will miss Tuesday's Midsummer Classic in Philadelphia as a result of the injury.
The 30-year-old departed Sunday's start against the Los Angeles Angels due to adductor and groin tightness.
Suarez's absence comes while the Red Sox are playing their best baseball of the season. Boston (42-48) has won five straight contests and 10 of 12 to pull within three games of the AL's final wild-card spot.
The left-hander owns a 3.15 ERA with a career-best 2.63 FIP and 9.6 K/9 over 91 1/3 innings (17 starts) this campaign after joining the Red Sox on a five-year, $130-million deal in the offseason. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Boston recalled infielder Brett Harris to take Suarez's spot on the active roster.
