The Washington Nationals are listening to offers for first baseman Luis García Jr. prior to the Aug. 3 trade deadline, sources told The Athletic's Will Sammon and Spencer Nusbaum.

Talks between the Nationals and interested teams remain in the preliminary stages, but Washington is open to the possibility of dealing García despite valuing his talent and team-friendly contract, Sammon and Nusbaum report.

The 26-year-old is under contract through 2027 with a salary of $6.875 million this year. He's arbitration eligible in 2027.

García is in the midst of a breakout campaign, slashing .284/.317/.554 with 20 home runs, 16 doubles, three triples, and 68 RBIs in 90 games.

He's also a versatile defender with experience at first and second base as well as shortstop.
