The Milwaukee Brewers bolstered their bullpen by acquiring right-hander Antonio Senzatela from the Colorado Rockies for left-hander Mark Manfredi and infielder Juan Martinez, the teams announced Monday.
Senzatela adds even more power to the back end of a dominant Brewers bullpen that features Trevor Megill, Abner Uribe, and Aaron Ashby.
The 31-year-old had an uneven nine-year run as a starter in Colorado, but he found new life after moving to a relief role this season. In 52 1/3 innings, Senzatela has posted a career-best 3.61 ERA, 3.36 FIP, and 1.30 WHIP along with 46 strikeouts and just four homers allowed.
Senzatela's in the final guaranteed season of a five-year, $50.5-million contract. He also has a $14-million club option for 2027.
Manfredi, 26, owns a 3.35 ERA and 1.23 WHIP while averaging 13.4 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9 over 34 relief appearances between Double-A and Triple-A this campaign.
Martinez is currently playing his first season in the U.S. The 19-year-old Venezuelan is hitting .307/.426/.487 with seven homers, 33 RBIs, and 27 steals over 58 games between the Arizona League Brewers and Low-A Wilson. He's played second, third, shortstop, and left field during his brief pro career.
