The New York Mets placed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on waivers, a source told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
Robert, a 2023 All-Star with the Chicago White Sox, has roughly $5 million remaining on his contract. He also has a $20-million club option for 2027 that contains a $2-million buyout.
Teams have 48 hours to claim Robert. If a club does add the 29-year-old, it would take on his remaining salary. He'll stay with the Mets if he isn't claimed.
Robert would be eligible for the playoffs if he's claimed before Sept. 1.
The oft-injured Robert has 10 home runs with 23 RBIs and a .715 OPS over 57 games this season. However, he slashed .311/.371/.623 with six homers over his last 19 games entering Saturday.
The Mets acquired Robert in January from the White Sox for Luisangel Acuña and pitching prospect Truman Pauley.
