The Toronto Blue Jays designated outfielder Jesús Sánchez for assignment, the club announced Friday.
Sánchez hit eight homers with 35 RBIs and a .734 OPS across 99 games this season. However, the 28-year-old has been one of the worst defenders in baseball, posting minus-8 outs above average.
Toronto acquired Sánchez from the Houston Astros for outfielder Joey Loperfido in February.
The Blue Jays also selected the contract of outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. in a corresponding move. The 30-year-old was promoted to the majors for the first time after spending 12 years in the minors. He was originally picked by the Kansas City Royals in the 25th round of the 2014 draft.
Martin has hit 11 homers with 40 RBIs, 45 stolen bases, and an .816 OPS over 91 games between Double-A and Triple-A in 2026.
