Guerrero finally hits HR at Rogers Centre: 'I hope this is a sign'

Toronto Blue Jays star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finally hit his first home run at his home stadium this season during Sunday's 8-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Guerrero took left-hander Trevor Rogers deep in the fifth inning for his first regular-season homer at Rogers Centre since Aug. 17, 2025.

"It feels so good to hit it and I hope there's many more to come," Guerrero said postgame with Sportsnet's Hazel Mae.

The six-time All-Star received a curtain call for breaking the 85-game drought.

"You look around, it looked like a walk-off homer," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said postgame, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. "I saw (Andrés) Giménez jump over the railing. Me, George (Springer), and Ernie (Clement) were high-fiving. Vlad's our guy."

Guerrero finished the game 4-for-5. The 27-year-old's homer was the second of three in a row by the Blue Jays. Springer and Kazuma Okamoto also went deep, giving Toronto back-to-back-to-back long balls for the first time since 2012.

"I hope this is a sign," Guerrero said. "I worked really hard for this and I hope this is going to be the sign. I'm going to keep giving all that I've got to the fans, to the team, and try to help the team win everyday."

Guerrero has nine home runs, 56 RBIs, and a .700 OPS over 135 games. It's the worst campaign of his eight-year career and the first season of a 14-year, $500-million extension he signed in April 2025.

"I try, believe me, every time I go out there I try to do my job. I try to do my 100 percent," Guerrero said. "I have all my teammates with me, they believe in me, and thankfully the fans believe in me, too."
