New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge is going on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain, the team announced Friday, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.
The three-time AL MVP could return before the wild-card round if he's healthy enough to be activated.
Judge suffered the injury during Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. He departed early due to leg tightness.
The 34-year-old superstar will miss the Yankees' four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. New York sits five games behind Tampa Bay for the AL East lead entering play Friday with the regular season ending Sept. 27.
Judge's status for the start of the playoffs is also murky. It's all but a formality the Yankees will host the Boston Red Sox in a best-of-three wild-card series.
Judge has hit 18 homers with 41 RBIs and an .871 OPS over 66 games. He missed over three months earlier this season because of a stress fracture in his rib.
