Springer: Blue Jays tenure 'has been a hell of a 6 years'

George Springer could take his last swings with the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend, but the 37-year-old designated hitter isn't ready to decide whether his career is over.

"I don't know," Springer said Wednesday when asked about his future, according to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon. "I love this organization. I love being a Blue Jay. I love the fans. I've loved every single bit of being here. I haven't really gotten that far yet."

Springer is in the final season of a six-year, $150-million deal he signed with the Blue Jays before the 2021 campaign. He regressed this season after a career year in 2025 but has played through injuries that have affected his on-field performance.

While the veteran's tenure in Toronto has been up and down, he stands as one of the team's most important free-agent signings and will be remembered for delivering one of the biggest hits in franchise history.

If this weekend's series against the Cincinnati Reds at Rogers Centre is Springer's last time suiting up for the Blue Jays, he said he'll leave with fond memories of his time with the organization.

"This has been a hell of a six years," Springer said.
