Seiya Suzuki's time with the Chicago Cubs might have come to an end following the team's elimination from the playoffs.
"My family, they love Chicago," the pending free agent said, according to The Athletic's Patrick Mooney. "But with free agency, that's something new for me. There's a lot of processes involved with that, so I'm not sure what's going to happen."
The 32-year-old is among the top position players entering free agency this offseason after a five-year run with the Cubs that included 113 home runs, 382 RBIs, and .823 OPS.
However, his stint with Chicago didn't feature a World Series, which Suzuki had hoped to achieve before becoming a free agent.
"Just looking back on the five years, I don't know if I was able to reach the expectations that people had. Each year, there was frustration at the end of the year," Suzuki said. "Looking back at it, I felt like I did get better. I worked hard. The plus, this last year, was that my defense improved a lot with all that work I put in."
He added: "There's a lot of what-ifs: Did I meet the expectations that people had about me, that I had about myself?"
Suzuki is expected to draw plenty of offseason attention and has already reportedly been linked to the Toronto Blue Jays, who need a powerful right-handed bat.
