New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is the winner of the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball announced Monday.

"This is something when our kids grow up, they're going to look back and say, 'My mom and dad were very cool because they were blessing others and helping others,'" Lindor said after learning he had won, according to SNY.

The 32-year-old infielder will receive the award prior to Game 3 of the World Series at Tropicana Field.

Lindor is the fifth Puerto Rican-born player to win the annual honor, joining Yadier Molina, Carlos Beltrán, Carlos Delgado, and Edgar Martinez.

The Roberto Clemente Award recognizes "the player who best represents the game of baseball through character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field."
