Fred Hoiberg could be on the verge of replacing Tom Thibodeau for a second time if Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor gets his way.

Taylor is seriously considering Hoiberg as the next general manager or head coach of the franchise, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

While that may be the case, the Timberwolves have no immediate plans to bring Hoiberg aboard, according to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.

Scott Layden is currently Minnesota's general manager, while Thibodeau was relieved of his duties as president and head coach on Sunday. Ryan Saunders will be stepping in as coach on an interim basis.

Current ESPN analyst and former five-time All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups has also been discussed internally as a candidate for both positions, sources told Wojnarowski.

Hoiberg was fired as coach of the Bulls on Dec. 3 following a 5-19 start to the season. He spent four seasons in the Windy City after coming aboard in 2015 under a five-year contract worth $25 million. He was hired mere months after Thibodeau was let go by the organization.

Hoiberg has ties to the Timberwolves as both a player and past member of its front office. He spent the final two seasons of his career (2003-05) suiting up for the team before retiring and eventually became an assistant GM.

Minnesota currently sits 11th in the Western Conference with an overall record of 19-21 after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
