Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid was ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's 108-94 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers after exiting late in the first quarter with a left shoulder sprain, the team announced, according to Cavs.com's Joe Gabriele.

The big man said postgame that he'll undergo an MRI on Thursday to help determine the severity of the injury, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey.

Embiid, who was coming off a career-high 49-point performance against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, appeared to suffer the sprain after getting tangled up with Cavaliers center Ante Zizic. The Cameroonian was in obvious discomfort when he took a pair of free throws before heading to the locker room.

The three-time All-Star has missed 16 games this season, including nine contests after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his hand.

Philadelphia is already without the services of star point guard Ben Simmons, who's reportedly out at least two weeks with a back injury.

The 76ers occupy the Eastern Conference's fifth seed with a 36-23 record.
