Wemby: It was my idea to 'hack' Skills Challenge shooting
San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama says it was his idea for him and Chris Paul to "hack" the shooting portion of the Skills Challenge, according to The Washington Post's Ben Golliver.
Wembanyama and Paul chose not to make serious attempts in the shooting portion of the timed event and instead just tossed away their shots. They were later disqualified.
The Chase Center crowd booed the Spurs duo for their actions. Wembanyama jokingly claimed the fans' reaction was directed at Paul, not him.
Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green also participated in the event and said Wemby asked NBA executives prior to the challenge if he could use the strategy, according to ESPN's Marc J. Spears.
The execs told Wembanyama he could, Green said.
"We tried something that we thought could win - to see if we had the best time," Paul said, according to ESPN's Michael C. Wright. "It was fun."
The Cleveland Cavaliers' Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell won the event.
