Golden State Warriors big man Kristaps Porzingis will be sidelined indefinitely due to a health issue, the team announced Monday.
Porzingis was on the court last week, but the Warriors were informed of his health issue Sunday, general manager Mike Dunleavy said, according to ESPN's Anthony Slater.
Golden State acquired Porzingis at the trade deadline last season and signed him to a two-year, $40-million extension in June.
The 30-year-old averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 32 games last season split between the Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.
Porzingis projected to begin the season as Golden State's starting center. Veteran Al Horford and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg could see increased usage out of the gate if Porzingis isn't ready for the start of the campaign. The Warriors open their season Oct. 21 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
