Cincinnati named Louisville sideline boss Scott Satterfield its new head coach, the program announced Monday.

Satterfield will sign a six-year contract with the Bearcats, ESPN's Pete Thamel reports.

Cincinnati is scheduled to take on Louisville in the Fenway Bowl on Dec. 17, but Satterfield told reporters he's decided to remove himself from the bowl game, according to The Athletic's Justin Williams. Louisville athletic director Josh Heird announced Deion Branch will serve as the Cardinals' interim coach for the bowl game, according to Mark Blankenbaker of ESPN.

Satterfield spent the last four seasons with the Cardinals, accumulating a 25-24 record. He went 7-5 this season.

He also enjoyed great success as Appalachian State's head coach from 2014-18. The Mountaineers went 47-16 under Satterfield and won three Sun Belt championships.

Cincinnati has been looking to fill its head coaching vacancy since Luke Fickell departed for Wisconsin in November.
