Michigan's Orji plans to enter transfer portal
Michigan quarterback Alex Orji is entering the transfer portal, he told ON3 Sport's Hayes Fawcett.
The junior passer will have two years of eligibility remaining at his new school.
Orji completed just 24 of 45 passes for 153 yards and three passing touchdowns and one interception in 19 games with the Wolverines. The Texas native was noted for his ability as a runner, tallying 383 yards and four touchdowns during his Michigan tenure.
Orji began this season backing up Davis Warren after their position battle in fall camp. He became the starter prior to a game against USC following Warren's early-season struggles.
Orji led the Wolverines to wins against the Trojans and Minnesota but never passed for more than 100 yards in any game during the 2024 season. He was benched against Washington in favor of Jack Tuttle after struggling to spark the offense.
Michigan is expected to see improved quarterback play for next season. The Wolverines signed five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood in their 2025 recruiting class. The program is also expected to seek a transfer QB to bolster its depth before spring camp.
