Former Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos is transferring to Texas Tech, sources told CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.
Last week, a Kentucky judge granted Castellanos a temporary restraining order, allowing him a fifth year of eligibility. The lawsuit challenged the NCAA's new eligibility rule allowing athletes to play college sports for five seasons, which excluded players who entered college in 2022, including Castellanos.
Castellanos declared for the NFL draft after the 2025 season, but went undrafted. The 23-year-old ultimately accepted minicamp invitations from the Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins to try out as a wide receiver.
Castellanos started 12 games for the Seminoles in 2025, posting 3,317 total yards with 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Among 133 qualifying signal-callers in college football last campaign, he ranked 14th in EPA/dropback, according to TruMedia.
The former three-star recruit transferred to Florida State in 2024 after stops at UCF and Boston College. He helped lead the Seminoles to a victory over Alabama in their season opener last year.
Texas Tech's top transfer portal acquisition, Brendan Sorsby, left the program after the NCAA banned him for extensive gambling activity. Will Hammond is the team's projected Week 1 starter but is coming off a torn ACL suffered in October 2025. Castellanos is open to being used as a wide receiver despite primarily playing quarterback in college, his agent told On3's Pete Nakos.
Castellanos holds a 16-16 record as a college starter, racking up 8,433 total yards and 72 touchdowns.
