Michigan tight end Zack Marshall apologized in a social media post Tuesday for making "inappropriate comments" after leaked messages attributed to him were shown criticizing offensive coordinator Jason Beck.

Michigan lost at Minnesota for the first time since 1977 on Saturday, and the alleged messages came in the wake of the upset.

The group chat messages alleged to be from Marshall, which were posted on X, included him saying that Beck told all of the team's tight ends they aren't "valuable to this offense."

Another message alleged to be from Marshall read: "Basically our offense sucks 'cause if you blitz us, we have no answers. We have an extra OL on the field every play and run different versions of power read every play (clown emoji). Also Beck tells Bryce (Underwood) where to go on every play and it gets strapped. Bryce is a good QB, Beck is a problem. I never said this, and this better not ever leave this group chat."

Michigan coaches are aware of the situation and have discussed it with Marshall, a team spokesperson told ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.

Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham said after Saturday's loss that the team's offensive results are "unacceptable."

Michigan ranks 105th nationally in scoring and 122nd in yards per game.

In 2025, Beck guided Utah's No. 4-scoring offense under Whittingham.

Marshall has zero receptions this year. The senior recorded 16 catches for 199 yards and one touchdown in 13 games last season.
