Caleb Williams not worried about Bears' track record with QBs

Potential No. 1 pick Caleb Williams says he isn't concerned with the Chicago Bears' lack of recent success at the quarterback position.

"I don't compare myself to other guys," Williams said Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to NBC Chicago's Josh Schrock.

Williams added, "I like to rewrite history."

Chicago has struggled to find a long-term franchise quarterback with former first-round pick Justin Fields appearing to be the latest failed project. The Bears, who hold the first selection in the 2024 draft, would be expected to trade Fields if they intend to select Williams.

The USC product reiterated Friday that he would be happy to play for the NFC North team.

"The Bears were 7-10 last year, and that's pretty good for a team with the No. 1 pick," Williams said, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder.

"It's pretty exciting if you can go to a situation like that," he added.

Asked what type of player the Bears would receive if they selected him, Williams highlighted his leadership qualities and competitive nature.

"A person that cares for his teammates," the standout prospect explained, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN. "Some of y'all may have seen, some of y'all may have not. I try to take care of all my guys no matter if you've been fourth on the depth chart or you’re the star player. So, I care for my teammates, and the other part is I'm a fierce competitor as you may have seen after some games."

Williams previously decided he won't throw at the NFL combine and announced Friday he won't participate in medicals either. Instead, he said he would do medicals only with the teams he visits later in the pre-draft process, according to Adam Jahns of The Athletic.
