Jeudy torches Broncos in historic 235-yard revenge game
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy made NFL history in his first meeting against his former team as he put forth a 235-yard effort in a 41-32 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Jeudy's 235 receiving yards are the most by any player in a game against their former club, according to the NFL's Dante Koplowitz-Fleming. The Browns receiver broke the previous record held by Terrell Owens, who put up 213 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in 2008 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
Jeudy's 235 yards were a career high, as were his nine receptions. He found himself wide-open for a 70-yard touchdown in the third quarter, mocking the Denver crowd after crossing into the end zone.
The wideout said he was fueled by the boos, telling reporters postgame he "wanted to hear it louder," according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.
"There were a lot (of boos), weren't there?" Jeudy added, per James Palmer of Underdog. "That means a lot of catches."
Jeudy said earlier this week that he was looking forward to going back to Denver to "whip their ass." The wideout spent the first four seasons of his career with the Broncos before being dealt to the Browns this past offseason. The 25-year-old requested a trade from his former club because he wasn't happy with how he was being used.
The 2020 No. 15 pick has never eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in a season but came close in 2022 when he notched 972 on 67 catches. He's up to 880 yards in his first year with the Browns.
Cleveland led Denver well into the fourth quarter before Will Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just under three minutes remaining gave the Broncos a 34-32 lead. Browns quarterback Jameis Winston had an opportunity to respond but threw a pick-6 to Ja'Quan McMillian with under two minutes left to seal the defeat. It was Winston's second interception returned for a touchdown in the contest. He finished with 497 yards, four touchdowns, and three picks.
