The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing in a new quarterback to back up Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City is signing Gardner Minshew to a one-year contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Minshew made 10 appearances (nine starts) for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, completing 66.3% of his passes for 2,013 yards and nine touchdowns against 10 interceptions.

The 28-year-old has started 46 games since entering the NFL as the Jacksonville Jaguars' sixth-round pick in 2019. Minshew has spent time with the Jaguars (2019-20), Philadelphia Eagles (2021-22), Indianapolis Colts (2023), and Raiders (2024).

Carson Wentz backed up Mahomes in 2024 and made only one start when the Chiefs rested most of their starters in the regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos.

Mahomes battled injuries in recent years but hasn't missed a game because of an injury since the 2019 season when he was sidelined for two contests.
