San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa is expected to miss a few weeks after pulling his calf while warming up for Thursday's practice, coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday.
Shanahan revealed that the star defender was doing "high knees" when he suffered the injury, according to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press.
The 49ers are leaning against sending Bosa to injured reserve, in part because they're running out of spots on the reserve list, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. An IR stint would cost him at least four games.
Bosa is the latest injury to plague the 49ers, with the team placing defensive tackle C.J. West on the IR this week.
The 49ers now have seen six defensive linemen go down in the past two weeks:

Veteran wide receiver Mike Evans has also been nursing a hip injury, while wideout Demarcus Robinson is dealing with a high ankle sprain. Rookie receiver De'Zhaun Stribling underwent ankle surgery after Week 1.
"You get used to just dealing with it," Shanahan said of the injury bug. "Lots of people have to go through stuff in this league all the time, some worse than others. I know we haven't had good luck these last couple of years. It started out bad, so hopefully we're getting it out of the way and it'll get better as the year goes. I'm happy that we haven't lost those guys for the whole year, but you just plug away and look on to the next challenge."
Bosa spent the offseason working toward a return after tearing his ACL in Week 3 last season. He recorded zero sacks and two tackles for a loss in two games before pulling his calf.
A former Defensive Player of the Year winner, Bosa has been one of the NFL's most dangerous edge rushers when healthy. He posted 44.5 sacks between 2021 and 2023.
