The Ottawa Senators are scouring the trade market to add another scoring forward, league sources told Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch.
The Senators are already without prized offseason acquisition William Eklund for at least two more months due to an ankle injury, and most recently lost Warren Foegele for an extended period because of an apparent knee injury sustained Tuesday.
Ottawa was reportedly interested in adding a forward even before Foegele's injury. The club ranks 21st in the NHL with 2.85 goals per game entering Thursday's slate.
A trade may not be easy to pull off at this point in the season, with sources telling Garrioch "there isn't a lot out there."
For now, the Senators will have to find ways to generate offense from within. Tim Stutzle (eight) and Drake Batherson (seven) are Ottawa's only players with more than three goals this campaign. Dylan Cozens, Fabian Zetterlund, Ridly Greig, and Andre Burakovsky have notably combined for just three tallies.
Ottawa has approximately $3.5 million in cap space to make a deal.
