Report: Rockies trying to re-sign Story
The Rockies are attempting to re-sign the shortstop, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
It appeared like Story's time with the Rockies would end this winter after he rejected their qualifying offer to hit the open market as one of the top free-agent shortstops available. However, Colorado is in play, along with the Texas Rangers, who are reportedly in pursuit of the two-time All-Star.
The Rockies currently project to start Garrett Hampson at short next season, making Story a significant, and familiar, upgrade if the two sides can agree to a new deal.
The 29-year-old Story had his worst season offensively last year for the Rockies. He hit .251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs and 75 RBIs, but he still produced a solid .801 OPS.
Over the course of his six seasons in Colorado, Story owns a .272/.340/.523 slash line with 158 home runs, 450 RBIs, and 100 steals.
Story has also finished among the top 12 in National League MVP voting three times.
