San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman is willing to do anything to help his team.
Chapman told the Giants he could temporarily play shortstop to begin the 2025 season if the club signs Ha-Seong Kim in free agency, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The five-time Gold Glover would need to cover short because Kim is recovering from shoulder surgery.
Chapman has only started one game at the position during his eight-year career, and it came during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.
The Giants could have Tyler Fitzgerald, Casey Schmitt, or David Villar play third base with Chapman at short until Kim is healthy, notes Rosenthal.
Chapman's new six-year, $151-million extension will kick in next year.
