The Tampa Bay Rays placed left-hander Shane McClanahan on the 15-day injured list with forearm tightness, the team announced Friday.
McClanahan described the issue as tightness instead of pain, and he expects to pitch again this season.
“I don’t think it’s anything too serious,” McClanahan just said now, speaking in the visiting clubhouse here in Arlington. He mentioned it’s tightness, not pain, and they’re trying to “nip it in the butt” as early as they can. He expects to pitch again this season. https://t.co/dBVn76S5vw

McClanahan struggled in a loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday, allowing four earned runs in five innings.
The 29-year-old made four starts after being activated from the IL on Aug. 17. McClanahan had experienced back tightness, which initially landed him on the IL.
McClanahan has performed well this season, authoring a 3.36 ERA and 8.1 K/9 in 24 starts.
The southpaw is in his first season of pitching in three years. He missed the 2024 and 2025 campaigns due to Tommy John surgery as well as a separate procedure to address a nerve issue.
