Riley's 3-run HR in 8th helps Braves stun Phillies in Game 1

The Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 to take Tuesday's opener of their best-of-three wild-card series.

Austin Riley hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning off Phillies closer Jhoan Duran, who was attempting to lock down a potential nine-out save after entering to start the seventh.

Braves fans chanted Riley's name at Truist Park following Game 1.

Riley's heroic moment comes after the worst regular season of his eight-year career. The two-time All-Star went deep 19 times with 72 RBIs and a .654 OPS across 159 contests.

With a win Wednesday, the Braves can advance to the NLDS to face the two-time reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Right-hander Tyler Mahle will start in Game 2. The Phillies will counter with NL Cy Young contender Cristopher Sánchez with their season on the line.
