Report: Carroll to sign with Rockets after buyout

The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a buyout with forward DeMarre Carroll, his agent confirmed to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Carroll intends to sign with the Houston Rockets once he clears waivers, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The 33-year-old Carroll joined the Spurs via a sign-and-trade last summer but has played just 15 games with the club. Carroll blamed his poor stint in San Antonio on a failure to adjust to head coach Gregg Popovich's system.

"Coach Pop is a great individual to me," he told Tom Orsborn of San Antonio Express-News. "Outside of basketball, we talk about family, all kinds of stuff. But with the basketball thing, we just didn't jell."

Carroll averaged 11.1 points and 5.2 rebounds in 25.4 minutes per game last season with the Brooklyn Nets. However, those numbers have dropped to 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in nine minutes per contest in San Antonio. He was earning $7 million with the Spurs this season and was due to earn $6.65 million in 2020-21 and $1.35 million in 2021-22.

The Rockets also signed forward Jeff Green to a 10-day contract, the team announced Tuesday. Green was bought out earlier this year by the Utah Jazz.
