Former NBA big man LaMarcus Aldridge is contemplating returning to the league this season after retiring suddenly in April while with the Brooklyn Nets, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Aldridge, who stepped away from basketball due to an irregular heartbeat, is reportedly considering resuming his career following medical consultation.

The seven-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection has yet to make a final decision but is expected to speak with teams soon, sources told Wojnarowski. He reportedly requires medical clearance from a team before he can sign a contract.

The 36-year-old averaged 19.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, two assists, and 1.1 blocks over 15 pro seasons split almost entirely between the Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs. He penned a one-year deal with the Nets in March after agreeing to a buyout with the Spurs, but he played just five games with Brooklyn before retiring.

Aldridge said in June he had been depressed since announcing his retirement.

"I still love basketball. I still feel like I have a lot to give," he said at the time. "But even now, I'm still trying to find myself. When you go from doing something you love for so long and you lose it overnight, it's a shock."
