Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline was named the new head coach of South Florida, the school announced Wednesday.

"Brian Hartline was our clear-cut first choice to lead our football program into the most exciting era in program history, and I am so fired up to have him leading the Bulls," USF athletic director Rob Higgins said in a statement. "A relentless recruiter, outstanding developer of talent, and a gritty competitor, he comes from a championship background and is obsessed with instilling championship excellence in his players and teams. He is ready to lead our program to the next level."

Hartline, 39, has built a reputation as one of the top recruiters in the country. He's credited with developing several standout wide receivers during his tenure with the Buckeyes, including alumni Emeka Egbuka, Marvin Harrison Jr., Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss headline one of the deepest WR corps in the nation this season.

"I'm honored and excited to join the University of South Florida as its new head football coach," Hartline said. "Becoming a first-time head coach at a place like USF is a dream come true for me and my family. I look forward to leading the team to new heights, both on and off the field."

USF began seeking a new coach after Alex Golesh left to take the same position at Auburn on Sunday. Golesh guided the Bulls to a 23-15 record over three seasons.

Hartline joined the Buckeyes' coaching staff in 2017 as a quality control coach after playing in the NFL for seven seasons. A former Ohio State receiver himself, Hartline has led the position group since 2018 and became the team's offensive coordinator in 2023. He took over play-calling duties this season.
