The Washington Commanders aren't planning to place quarterback Jayden Daniels on injured reserve after he dislocated his left elbow, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.
An IR stint would sideline Daniels for at least four games. The signal-caller is reportedly considered week-to-week, with Washington hoping he can return as soon as possible.
Commanders general manager Adam Peters told Junks Radio earlier Friday that surgery wasn't currently on the table for Daniels, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic.
Daniels dislocated his left elbow on the final play of the first half in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He suffered the injury when he used his left arm to stay balanced after losing his footing on the snap, and his elbow appeared to bend awkwardly as he hit the ground.
It's the second time in as many years that Daniels has dislocated his left elbow.
Daniels, the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, led the Commanders to the NFC title game in his debut campaign but struggled in his second season. Hampered by injuries and inconsistent play, Daniels' completion percentage dropped from 69% in 2024 to 60.6% last year. His quarterback rating also fell from 100.1 to 88.1.
The 25-year-old completed 56.9% of his passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions this season before his injury, though the Commanders are 0-2.
Marcus Mariota is expected to start for the Commanders in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks.
