Capitals expect to place Oshie on LTIR
The Washington Capitals plan to place T.J. Oshie on long-term injured reserve for the upcoming season, the club announced Wednesday.
Oshie is still dealing with a chronic back injury that significantly hampered him in 2023-24. The veteran forward, who turns 38 in December, said in a statement Wednesday that last season was "challenging" for him, his family, and his teammates.
"I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury," Oshie added. "I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all of our fans' support during this time."
Oshie was limited to 52 games in 2023-24, and he's averaged only 51 over the last three campaigns. The American winger collected 12 goals and 13 assists while logging 16:52 of ice time per contest last season.
He's played 16 seasons, spending the last nine with the Capitals after seven campaigns with the St. Louis Blues. Oshie has notched 302 goals and 393 assists over 1,010 regular-season games. He also has 34 tallies and 36 helpers in 106 playoff contests.
Oshie helped the Capitals win the Stanley Cup in 2018 with eight goals and 13 assists in 24 playoff games.
