New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal won't skate for the next two weeks after aggravating a prior injury and causing inflammation, the team announced Wednesday.

The Islanders open their season in exactly two weeks - Sept. 30 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Barzal tallied a team-leading 72 points in 81 games with the Islanders last season.

The 29-year-old was limited to 30 games in 2024-25 due to multiple injuries.
