The CBC will no longer air NHL games after the public broadcaster's agreement with Sportsnet expired at the end of the 2025-26 season, the organizations announced Tuesday.

Sportsnet and CBC struck a 12-year, $5.2-billion agreement when the former acquired the NHL's national television rights in Canada in 2013. The NHL and Rogers Communications, which owns Sportsnet, signed a 12-year, $11-billion broadcast agreement last year.
CBC began airing Hockey Night in Canada on television in 1952 and continued to broadcast Saturday night games and some playoff games through its sublicensing agreement over the past 12 years.
"It's fair to say CBC will no longer be carrying NHL hockey, however, we own the HNIC mark and will be using the iconic brand in different ways going forward," CBC head of public affairs Chuck Thompson told The Athletic's Julian McKenzie.
