The Houston Astros acquired center fielder Daulton Varsho from the Toronto Blue Jays for right-hander Spencer Arrighetti, the clubs announced Monday.
The Blue Jays are expected to cover a portion of Varsho's remaining salary, a source told Chandler Rome of The Athletic. He's earning $10.75 million this year.
Varsho will be in the lineup for the Astros on Monday when they start a three-game series against Toronto at Daikin Park, according to Space City Home Network's Julia Morales.
Varsho, a pending free agent and 2024 Gold Glover, has seven homers with 26 RBIs and a .682 OPS over 99 games this season. Defensively, the 30-year-old sits in the 87th percentile for outs above average.
Arrighetti, 26, has authored a 4.60 ERA with 1.34 WHIP and 87 strikeouts over 88 innings (17 starts) this year.
